We talk to Mike about the area that we are jumping too. He says there isn’t much there but one anomaly. There is a fair amount of traffic, a possible settlement with no record of it being funded or created by the government but records of Government involvement in its prep. It is there but covered over in some fair detail. Could have been a started colony and coopted into military use, pirate base, or some strange cult. We decide to keep an eye on it just in case.
Pierce talks to the Dojo master about getting lessons to improve his skill. Corbin decides he would sign up for the street fighting (red Devil style) class and zero G spacer fighting (Free Fighting Style) when they get back, Pierce signs up for Tsu Wei style which is all acrobatic, and Dr. DS signs up for Basic Self Defense.
Once the crew all come back from shore leave we head out and jump to Star System KAO-483 (which the crew plans to name Virgil when they register their survey – GM) at the edge of Dante Sector. It has 1 Rocky planet in the inner system, and 2 icy worlds at the end with some icy moons. We proceed to start the work for a detailed survey of the region. It does have a planet in the habitability band but it would be rather cold. We begin passive scanning and find nothing overt so begin heading in system to start scanning out to in as we enter the system.
We start with the outer most icy dwarf planet and its moon, but we feel this almost screaming presence and a need of help coming from a few systems over. The crew wants us to help and Corbin goes to talk to Becky who also wants us to go. She says it is most likely not a trap since it is difficult to lie that way. The entity was the most powerful mind she has encountered but not at all human. The crew finishes scanning the outermost world and we break orbit to head to System KAO-324.
We go to battlestations and drop out of D-Space into the system with only a few worlds and a human registry freighter ship with dead engines coasting in the outer system. Corbin asks Becky if she feels the presence and she says it is on or near the floating ship. We plot a course to bring us along side while scanning the area for hostiles. The ship still has power but is coasting along. We try to open communications with the Lucky Diamond a Confed registered freighter Civilian Merchant. No response from the ship with no external damage but scanners detect no engines or communications but life support is still up and basic power but no heat signatures. We find an airlock to dock with and bring the ship around to dock. We knock but get no response so Alex opens the airlock which is easier than the Kronin ship.
We announce our presence and begin heading toward the bridge. The ship is a older but only recently abandoned. The holds are mostly empty with only stock and trade goods for the most part. Moving through the populated areas of the ship we find a body in the hall. Doctor checks the body, human male, no trauma, alive but unconscious and unresponsive. Corbin tells her try to wake him so we can question if possible but her efforts get only a minimal response, Banduch, from him so we leave him in a nearby cabin and start locking the cabins as we go. Pierce says Banduch is some xeno race he has heard about recently but nothing else. Alex says he thinks they are a psi race, something mentioned by Mike, like tiny brontosaurs, and Pierce remembers that they are one of the more powerful psy that rarely leave their homeworld and are pacifists for the most part.
All of the crew we encounter are passed out but no command staff. We see movement (a closing door) ahead in the hall as someone runs into a room. Corbin tells the rest to wait and goes to investigate. He says they are from the Drake and the crew man tells us to leave they are only having minor difficulties and everyone is having a nap. He says he is the chief navigator and Pierce starts bluffing he will blow us all up if the guy doesn’t come out. Corbin runs in while he is distracted and goes for a diving tackle. Corbin grabs him and punches his wrist, making him release the gun. He starts to talk.
He says they got an offer to acquire a Banduch from some guy on Gateway station. He describes a guy that sounds like the guy that attacked Pierce on the station. They still have the Banduch on board and it is off the charts and has killed the engine. Most of the crew is asleep due to its influence. We enter negotiations with the captain and find the location of the banduch and we convince it to return to our ship while we cover its escape. The crew tries to threaten us with gunfire. Corbin pulls a grenade and tells them if they fire he will send them all out into space. They fire anyway and the crew makes a run for the airlock while Corbin and Pierce open suppressive fire. Crew gets to the airlock while Corbin holds them off. We make it back to the ship and evac.
The Banduch asks them to stop at Kolkan, the Confed capital of the sector. He says they took him from home and they were shielded from him somehow because he never heard them coming. We give him a room and prepare some food and send Becky over to talk to him to ease her troubles. Doctor checks him out and says she thinks he is fine but tired he needs some rest even though she hasn’t ever worked on one of his species before. We get a scan of him for the doctor to check his innards. He says his name doesn’t translate well so Pierce calls him Bubba. We find out a lot about his people, and he shows an interest in learning more about our race. Corbin walks Becky over to talk to Bubba. Corbin stays in the cabin with them to keep her company whilst they talk amoungst themselves.
Five days pass with Becky, Doc, and Alex talking to him and Corbin gives him a tour of the ship. Once they reach Kolkan Corbin gets in touch with SecAdmin and tells them the details. He is told to land at the spaceport where SecAdmin is and go to headquarters where a representative from his people will be waiting. He thanks us all, Corbin asks him if he comes across any information to pass it along to us, and gives information to the Doctor about the Banduch mentally. Bubba checks Pierce for why he regenerates and Bubba tells him that someone has been mucking around with his biology and his memory telling him that most of his memories are not his own and he has no real mind of his own. Everything before he got posted to the diplomatic corp is not his memory. Pierce was created, probably a clone, which he says explains alot. Corbin asks if he can poke around in his head to see whats going on since he runs higher than most people on the brainwave scale. Bubba tells him that it is him, but not him. He sees a slightly off reflection, like something is trying to contact me, maybe myself? He says it appears to be a message from me but not. He says he can impart the knowledge to Becky to spot it when it happens next and possibly get in contact with whatever it is.
We land and bring Bubba to SecAdmin while getting odd looks from all the passerbys on the way. We head in to the Diplomatic sector of the building to meet with representatives for the Banduch. Mr. Belding and his own Banduch, Steve, greet us. Steve is taken aback by the idea that Bubba wants to explore the humans. They top off our tanks and recommend a hotel for the night, tell us the Banduch will probably want to honor us in some way and we let him know where we can be contacted. We spend a day or two on the world before heading back out. Corbin checks out the Officers club and goes looking for rummors while Pierce goes cruising for the hottest chick he can find, other than the Doc, and have revenge sex over the sniping with Mr. Belding.
